Queen Elizabeth annually recognizes UK citizens who have made an impact in their fields.  The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) is an order of chivalry established in 1917.  The Order includes five classes in civil and military divisions. In decreasing order of seniority, these are:

  • Knight Grand Cross (GBE) or Dame Grand Cross (GBE)
  • Knight Commander (KBE) or Dame Commander (DBE)
  • Commander (CBE)
  • Officer (OBE)
  • Member (MBE)

Rumored honorees for this year include Beth Tweddle, the double world champion gymnast; Ian McGeechan, the coach of the British and Irish Lions rugby team; Patrick Stewart, the Star Trek and X-Men actor; and Mark Jones, the director of the Victoria & Albert Museum.
